Amazonas images, a Paris-based press agency, was created in 1994 by Lélia Wanick Salgado and Sebastião Salgado. Sebastião Salgado had already left the agency, Magnum Photos, and was starting a new long-term photographic project on population movements throughout the world. The scale of this endeavor made it necessary to establish a structure with a team to work on the production, coordination, development and distribution of this new body of work. While this specific project is over, Amazonas images continues to be the working base and production center for Sebastião Salgado's photographs. Amazonas images handles Sebastião Salgado's work exclusively, and is represented by photo and press agencies in several countries in Europe and North America.
